Important Stats for Your Website Design
“Whoa, you can’t have a website like that!”
This was me recently while I was looking for a contractor. I was searching through websites to see who would be a good fit for my projects and was surprised at what I found: super busy designs and old, outdated websites. So, I did what a lot of people do, I moved to the next website.
I have to tell you the truth. I judge you on your website, and statistics say I’m not alone. According to one stat 94% of people cited web design as the reason they mistrusted or rejected a website. (tytonmedia)
So what can you do to make sure this isn’t you?
Keep it clean:
One of the biggest turnoffs according to the stats is a busy, unorganized website. This doesn’t mean it should be boring, but try to keep to a simple layout that’s easy to follow.
Avoid small text:
Too much small text on your page makes it difficult to read. Break your text up into paragraphs. Use point form and headers to make reading easier.
Be responsive:
Make sure your site is compatible with mobile devices. More and more users are looking at your site with their phones and tablets. According to the stats 67% of shoppers were more likely to buy from a website that is compatible with mobile devices.
Follow the navigation:
Difficult navigation was one of the biggest complaints. Make sure it’s easy to get to all the important parts of your website. Consider a search bar to make this even easier.
Speed up:
Slow loading sites and images resulted in many people leaving sites according to the stats. Reduce the sizes of your images to only what you need for website design.
Remember the old adage “you only get one chance to make a first impression”. This is definitely true with website design, except that I’d go even further. You only have a few seconds to make a first impression before a potential client moves to another website. Use these tips to help your website earn that second look.
