3 Easy Ways to Add Related Posts to your Squarespace Blog

I’ll admit it.

I am one of those people who gets sucked in by related posts. I get to the end of a blog post and see the other topics to read, and then somehow I’ve read twelve blog posts.

Related posts encourage your visitors spend more time on your site and visit more pages. This can help you grow your website traffic and help your SEO.

So how do you add related posts to the end of your blog post?

There are 3 easy ways.

using a summary block for related posts Squarespace

This post contains affiliate links. When you click on an affiliate link and make a purchase, I receive a small commission at no cost to you. Affiliate links are marked with an asterisk (*).

Use a Summary Block

You can use Squarespace’s Summary Block to create a related post block. This method is free, easy to use and allows you pull posts from a category or tag that you’ve created.

However, you will have to manually add the block to every blog post or create a blog template that you duplicate for every blog post. Also, your summary block shows the most recent blog, so you’ll want to be careful which category or tag that you pull so the blog you are publishing doesn’t show in related posts.

How to add a summary block:

1)      Click Edit & scroll to the bottom of your post

2)      Hover over the end of your post and click the plus sign

3)      Choose Summary

Adjust your settings in the Summary Settings pop-up

summary block content settings

Content tab:

1)       Select the page you want to pull from (it will most likely be Blog)

2)      Choose if you want to see any metadata like date or category

3)      Click Filter Items if you want to pull post only from one category or tag

Design tab:

1)      Choose your layout & adjust the settings to show off your posts

Adding categories to your blog posts

Categories help organize your blog and let your visitors easily navigate to the information that they want to see. They also help your SEO by helping search engines understand what your pages are about.

Add a list of Text Links

If you want a low tech option for adding related posts, this one is for you. You can simply add a Related Posts title with your blog post links below.

The advantage of this option, besides it being really low tech, is that you can choose exactly which posts you want to highlight, rather than having the most recent ones in that category. You’ll probably have to keep a list or spreadsheet though, to keep track of all your posts and categories.

Use a Related Posts Plugin

This is the option for people who just want to set and forget. It’s the option I use for my blog. I wanted something that I only had to add once and then never really think about. The only downside to this option is that there is a cost.

The related post plugin* I use is from SQSP Themes. It’s easy to use and the current post is hidden. Your related posts design and content options are much the same as using a summary block.
