How to Create a “Link in Bio” Page in Squarespace

If you’ve been on Instagram you’ve seen those words, “Link in Bio”. There everywhere.

Why? For most of us, Instagram only allows us to have one link to our website, and it’s in the bio.

This makes it difficult for our followers to find those new blog posts or offers they want to see. So to make this easier, many of us (raises hand) have used 3rd party sites like Linktree or Linkin.bio so that we can have a list of links.

But we don’t have to use these sites. If you already have a Squarespace website, you can make your own (better) link in bio page.

Why Use Squarespace Instead of Linktree?

1.     YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN BRANDING

Depending on the 3rd party tool you use, you may be able to pick your own colours for the buttons, but otherwise the design is decided by the website (unless you want to pay for an upgrade). With Squarespace you’ll be using the same colours and fonts as the rest of your website.

2.     YOU CAN INCLUDE MORE INFO

That great offer you wanted to show off? Include a picture. You have complete freedom to choose what goes on the page. I have a summary block of my most recent blog posts on my page.

3.     IT’S ONE LESS STEP AWAY FROM YOUR WEBSITE!

This makes it even easier for your followers to find the info they want.

How to Set Up a Link in Bio Page in Squarespace

Step 1: Add a New Page

  1. In the Home menu click Website > Pages

  2. Click the “+” symbol next to Not Linked

  3. Select Blank Page

  4. Give your new page a name like Instagram or Welcome

Step 2: Add Your Content

Now it’s time to add your content. What should you add? Here are a few options:

  • Your photo or logo: Let your followers know they’ve arrived on the right site

  • Your important links: Add some buttons in your brand colours to direct your followers around your website.

  • A welcome message: Say hi!

  • Featured products: Use a summary block to show off items from your store

  • Recent blog posts: Use a summary block to show recent or popular posts

  • Newsletter sign up

*Make sure you check out your design in the mobile view as many, if not most of your followers will be coming from Instagram on mobile. You could also design your page in mobile view first.

Step 3: Update the Page Settings

There are two page settings that I like to update on a link in bio page, but these are completely optional.

Remove Page from Search Results

I don’t want my page to show up on Google or Bing. This is a page for my Instagram followers and I think it might confuse anyone else who lands here. So to make sure it doesn’t get indexed I hide the page from search engines.

  1. Hover over your page name

  2. Click on the gear icon to access the Page Settings

  3. In the SEO tab toggle Hide Page from Search Results to the on position (green)

  4. Click Save

Hide the Header & Footer

To keep the page focused, you may want to consider removing the header and footer. Until recently, if you wanted to do this you needed to add some CSS code into your page settings. Luckily, Squarespace has recently added a feature that makes this much easier.

  1. Hover of the page name in the menu and click the gear icon

  2. Click on Navigation

  3. Toggle the Header and/or Footer to the off position (grey)

  4. Click Save

And now you have a branded Link in Bio page right on your website!
