3 Easy Ways to Create a Blog Signature in Squarespace

So I’m almost done reading your blog post and now I want to know more.

Who wrote this? What do they do? Do they have any other great articles?

We’ve already talked about using Related Posts to help your visitors find other posts they may want to read. Another helpful thing to add to your blog is a section all about you – a blog signature.

Adding a signature to your blog is a great way to personalize your blog, show who you are (with a picture too) and talk about your products or services. A signature can even help your SEO by adding your keywords and some important links.

Here are 3 easy ways to add a blog signature to your Squarespace blog.

1 - Use Squarespace’s Built-in Author Profile Feature

Squarespace provides a built-in way to create and show blog signatures on your website. And it’s really easy to use.

First, you’ll need to set up your profile.

  1. From your Account Dashboard click on Account Settings

  2. Fill in all the information in the Profile tab (name, picture, bio)

  3. Save

Then, simply turn on the Author Profile Feature.

  1. Navigate to one of your Blog Posts

  2. Click Edit

  3. Hover over the page and click on the Edit Settings pop-up

  4. Toggle Show Author Profile to the on position (green)

  5. Save

Your author profile will now show on all your blogs.

What if you have more than one author for your blog?

You can have as many authors (and their signatures) as you want or need on your blog. Just head to Settings > Permissions and add a Basic Author.

Your post will use the profile from your Account Settings by default. To use a different author hover over your blog post name in your list and click the three dots •••. Then click Settings and use the Author dropdown menu to choose your Author.

The only drawback to using the Author Profile feature is the lack of styling options. You can change the font style and use bold, underline and hyperlinks, but otherwise you have to style the Author Profile using CSS. So, if you want a more interesting design you may want to try one of the other options.

2 - Create a Blog Signature Template

This way of creating a signature for your Squarespace website gives you total creative freedom.

Using the blog editor (or classic editor) you’ll add images, text, buttons or other blocks and arrange them into a blog signature. You can even add other sections to your template that you want to reuse, such as related posts or opt-in gifts. Then, you create a template for your blog posts.

Set up your Blog Signature Template:

  1. Create a new blog

  2. Hover over the page and click on the Edit Settings pop-up

  3. Make sure the Author Profile is toggled off (dark grey)

  4. Add a title (like Blog Template) and create your signature

  5. Click Save

*Do not click on Publish or Schedule – Leaving your template as a draft will keep it at the top of your post list.

Use your Blog Signature Template

Using your Blog Signature Template is simple. All you need to do is duplicate.

  1. Hover over the name of your Template

  2. Click on the three dots •••

  3. Click Duplicate

You will now have a new blog post in your list called Template (copy). This will have your Blog Signature ready for you. You just need to add your new blog content. Edit, publish or schedule your content as usual. And don’t forget to change the name of your URL in Settings > Content.

3 - Add a Sidebar Blog Signature with a Plugin

blog sidebar

Would you like to have your blog author profile in a sidebar? You could create a sidebar layout and turn it into your Blog Signature Template. Or, you could use the Squarespace Sidebar Plugin* to set it up once and “forget it” or have it appear automatically when you add a new blog post.

This option also gives you a lot of creative freedom.

You create a page just for your sidebar content, so you can use all of the options available in either the Fluid Engine Editor or Classic Editor. Then the plugin lets you customize it even further with different widths, margins and positions. You can even make it into a sticky sidebar (it stays in a fixed position while you scroll).

Then you just have to copy and paste the code (don’t worry – they tell you exactly where it goes).

Now you have a sidebar with your Blog Signature on your Squarespace Website.
